Project: Cherry Tree Barn Cottage, Hook
Date: August to December 2015
This former cow shed was originally converted in the 1980s and used as offices until early in 2015. The layout was rather disjointed and it certainly didn’t have a very homely feel. The brief was to convert it into a new cottage for an elderly couple, so it had to be warm, functional and prepared for the possibility of wheelchair access in the future.
The result is a light, airy space with bespoke features such as a shelved desk area for a book fanatic. The layout has been changed completely to offer two bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms, with a central kitchen and living space, while still keeping the original oak beams and headers above the windows and doors. Outside, a ramp and steps provide access to the front door, and the patio is the perfect spot to enjoy the sun with a cup of tea.
